Tiffany & Alex | The Carolina Inn, Chapel Hill, NC
Tiffany and Alex’s wedding weekend at The Carolina Inn was absolutely stunning, one that Chapel Hill was the perfect setting for. The cherry blossoms were still in bloom, the lawns were perfectly green; it was a beautiful and breezy spring weekend, and they made the most of every single minute of it.

The Venue
There are few venues in North Carolina that carry as much historic weight as The Carolina Inn. It’s been a fixture of Chapel Hill since 1924: classic brick and manicured grounds, and the famed black-and-white checkered hallway. The ceremony took place in the Anne Hill Courtyard, with the Inn’s iconic facade as a backdrop, and the reception unfolded under an open-sided white-top tent settled right on the front lawn, so the whole day was set outside to enjoy the weather.
The Design
Tiffany and Alex’s vision wasn’t a single word or a mood board, but rather, it was a feeling: spring in North Carolina, with just a little bit of Nantucket woven through. Tiffany is from Nantucket, and she wanted all of their guests to feel just a touch of that breezy island ease throughout the day. The result was something that felt genuinely full of color and full of life.
The florals set the tone from the moment guests arrived. The ceremony aisle was lined on both sides with a ground-level runner of blooms in blush, lavender, soft yellow, white, coral. Two tall floral columns flanked the altar, packed with the same full palette against that red brick wall. It was romantic but with movement.
Inside the tent, the design pulled back just slightly and let the front-lawn setting do more of the work. White satin linens, white chiavari chairs, string lights overhead, hanging starburst and globe crystal chandeliers. The centerpieces were low and colorful, in the same garden palette as the ceremony, with floating candles and votives at each table. A blue geometric napkin gave a hint back to the envelope liner for the invitation suite: a letterpress suite with a custom duogram and a navy, Carolina blue, and white palette that showed up again in the matchboxes, the programs, the escort cards, the groom’s suit, and the bridesmaids’ dresses. The through-line was quiet, but it was there, and it made the whole day feel considered.
The Details
Tiffany’s bridal fashion muse was Kate Middleton, and the final look absolutely delivered. Her ceremony look was a long classic gown from Lela Rose with delicate straps and a clean neckline – beautiful on its own, but elevated by a custom bolero made from Monique Lhuillier lace. For the reception, the bolero came off to reveal her full low-back satin gown that was an entirely different kind of stunning. Same dress, but two completely different moments.
Her bouquet was all lily of the valley – a classic and regal bloom, and it looked like it had just been cut from a garden on Nantucket that morning.
The champagne greeting at the reception was an idea that worked on multiple levels. Gold display shelves held rows of pre-filled champagne flutes, each tied with a ribbon and a name. The name card told guests where they were sitting, while the ribbon told the service team what plated meal they’d selected. A bubbly sip, escort card, and meal indicator in one.
The cocktail hour leaned into Tiffany’s coastal roots: a seafood station abundant with oysters, crab, and all accouterments. A pianist and violinist played through both the ceremony and cocktail hour, and the whole thing had a relaxed elegance that made you want to linger (a quality that felt very Nantucket-esque).
The Party
When The Gentlemen and Their Lady, a nine-piece band, took the stage, the tent transformed. They opened with the first dance: Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight,” fully choreographed and worth every second of practice. Watching Tiffany and Alex on that dance floor, the band behind them, the flowers everywhere, the lights just starting to glow as the sun set – it was one of those moments that a room holds onto.
The dance floor didn’t empty after that. Well, it couldn’t – nine incredible live musicians on a spring Saturday with perfect evening weather has a way of making that impossible.
Tiffany and Alex, thank you for letting us be part of your entire weekend – from the rehearsal dinner to the farewell brunch and everything in between. Chapel Hill gave you a perfect April day, and you gave it right back.
