Tori & Connor | DuGaren Venues & Vineyards, Denver, NC
Tori and Connor’s wedding day near Charlotte, NC was a day that had been in the making for over 10 years. They were high school sweethearts who went their separate ways after graduation – growing up and finding themselves before eventually finding their way back to each other. By the time they said “I do” at DuGaren Venues & Vineyards on a perfect November afternoon, it had been over a decade in the making. There’s something really special about getting to plan a wedding like that. The joy in the room wasn’t just about the day. It was about everything, every moment and every choice, that led to it.

The Venue
Situated just outside Charlotte in Denver, NC, DuGaren Venues & Vineyards is the kind of venue that earns its keep before a single design element has even touched it. The property has this quiet, unhurried beauty to it: rolling vineyard rows and open sky that makes everything feel a little cinematic.
The ceremony took place on the back lawn, with the golden vineyards stretching out behind the altar and the trees putting on their full November show. As the sun dipped lower and the evening moved indoors, guests stepped into DuGaren’s great room, boasting soaring ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, chandeliers glowing overhead, stone columns, and a fireplace that was very much put to use. It’s a room that manages to feel both grand and genuinely cozy, which is a hard balance to strike.
The Design
When Tori came to us with her vision, she summed it up in one word: Twilight. We were thrilled. No blush and neutral here, this was going to be moody, romantic, layered, and dramatic.
The ceremony set the tone right away. Two large urns flanked the end of the aisle, each overflowing with organic, loosely arranged blooms that looked genuinely foraged. Yards of wine-red velvet draped from the pedestals and pooled on the ground around them. Chocolate ribbon bows marked the chairs along the aisle. The whole scene had this romantic, almost otherworldly quality that felt completely intentional and completely Tori.
Inside, the reception carried that same energy into a different key. The long farm tables were dressed in dark chocolate satin with tone-on-tone damask napkins – textural and luxe. Organic florals spilled down the center of each table, winding between clusters of amber votives, brass candelabras, and tall sleek glassware. The glassware was a deliberate choice: something clean and modern to balance all that wildness and to mimic the hurricane glasses around the candles, and it worked beautifully. Every surface flickered. The fireplace was on. A trio of musicians – piano, saxophone, and guitar – played through dinner, and the whole room felt like it was wrapped in something warm and slightly enchanted.

The Details
This is where Tori and Connor’s day really showed its heart.
Before guests even took their seats for the ceremony, they were greeted with a champagne welcome as the string trio played softly in the background. There was a chair in the front row draped with a sign that read reserved from heaven for Connor’s father, who wasn’t there in person but was so clearly present in every part of the day.
Connor honored his dad again during cocktail hour through one of two signature drinks – “The Jeff,” a dirty vodka martini with blue cheese olives, named for him. The second cocktail, “The Jack,”, named after Tori’s father, was a vodka transfusion with grape juice and ginger ale – and here’s the best part – served in a styrofoam cup, just like on the golf course.
Beyond the drinks, the details were thoughtful at every turn. Guests signed a deck of cards as a guest book. It was personal, playful, and something Tori and Connor actually framed after the wedding, displaying it on their wall at home. And the Pittsburgh cookie table – it’s a tradition, and a serious one. Tori and Connor are both Pennsylvania kids, and they weren’t about to get married without one – it brought in a touch of their home state.

The Party
Tori and Connor’s grand entrance through DuGaren’s stone archway was pure energy. The room absolutely erupted around them. Their first dance was fully choreographed, and it brought the house down – Connor spinning Tori across the black-and-white checkered floor, her skirt flying. An incredible lift sent the crowd into full dynamite mode.
A seven-piece live band carried the night from there, and the dance floor never really emptied. Custom last name hats made an appearance, and Kevin, their beloved dog, was immortalized in fathead form and made his way around the room in the hands of various guests.
Because the night called for it came the Taco Bell. It was the perfect ending – so fun and totally unexpected.

Tori and Connor, thank you for letting us be part of your day. Ten years is a long time to find your way back to someone. It was worth every single one.
